THE VOYAGE:

Saving Philanthropy is a one hour documentary film exploring the strategies associated with effective philanthropy and high-performing organizations. Specifically, the film asks the question, "What if social service organizations were funded based on their performance, or their ability to manage to outcomes?" Through interviews with foundation representatives, service providers, program participants and industry experts, the film explores the relationships between strategic philanthropy, high performing organizations and the performance management strategies they employ.

The film encourages an open discussion and exchange of ideas within the philanthropic community. This is supported by the wide range of perspectives voiced and by the exploration of performance in both conceptual and human terms. It is our intention to not only advance the discussion regarding strategic philanthropy, but to help improve the management of performance in the sector, and ultimately the outcomes that it strives to reach.

Some of the most well known and respected philanthropic organizations and thought leaders are participating in the film, including: Ken Berger, CEO of Charity Navigator, Jane Wales, Director of The Aspen Institute's Program on Philanthropy, Paul Brest, President of the Hewlett Foundation, Kat Rosqueta, Founder of the Center for High Impact Philanthropy at Penn, and David Hunter, former Director of Evaluation at The Edna McConnell Clark Foundation.

Filmmakers:

KATE ROBINSON: Producer
Kate Robinson holds a B.A. in Cultural Politics from the Johnston College at the University of Redlands. Kate began her professional career in Public Policy in 1998. She later became the Executive Director of a state-wide health care advocacy organization. From 2006-2009 Kate was the Director of Strategic Initiatives for a leading performance management software firm. Kate is currently Artistic Director of FSP Creative Advocacy. She is also a passionate artist and is currently pursuing an MFA at Towson University.

ROBBY ROBINSON: Director
Robby studied filmmaking at the University of Southern California and The University of Texas at Austin. He is the founder and President of NE Productions, Inc., an Austin, Texas based film and video production company specializing in short documentaries and web based productions.
